Midwives are members of an independent profession that is as old as human history. Midwifery in Turkey started with the master-apprentice relationship, developed with education and continued with midwifery courses, midwifery schools, high school, associate degree education, and today it is continued with undergraduate education. Especially in developed countries with qualified midwifery services, undergraduate and competency-based education model is applied. In developing countries, there is not enough midwifery service, and in order to strengthen midwifery, the quality of midwifery education needs to be increased both quantitatively and qualitatively. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have emphasized the quality of midwifery services in recent years and stated that midwifery needs to be strengthened.
Fırat University Midwifery Student Community organized the “Midwives Ask: Fırat University Midwifery Department Alumni Meeting” event in order to continue communication with Fırat University Midwifery Department Alumni, to enable midwifery students to benefit from the experiences of our alumni, and to increase internship, graduation projects, joint projects and possible job opportunities. The event aimed to bring together our alumni working in different positions with our students, to share their experiences with our students and to find answers to our students’ questions.
